Shepherds Hut with Hot Tub: Camping at The Wriggly Tin.
Looking for the perfect camping trip? Look no further than Butser, the first Shepherd’s hut to be made at the Wriggly Tin (and also the most popular).
A few years back, I spotted this perfect little camping spot on Rosie from The Londoners blog, and knew I needed to experience this place for myself.
Set in a secluded meadow, nestled in the South Downs, lies a collection of luxury shepherd huts, just over a two hour drive from London. The owner, Alex kits out all of the tin's himself with each tin having its own design and vintage touch whilst also keeping the camping experience very much alive.
We spent most of our evenings around the campfire, cooking our meals under the stars and spending quality time with one another (without the distraction of technology) & it was perfect.
If camping in a tent is not your style, let me introduce you to glamping at The Wriggly Tin.
This post is about Shepherd Huts with Hot Tubs.

The Butser Shepherd’s Hut
The perfect camping experience without compromising your home comforts.
A wood-fired hot tub is also available as an added extra, and starts at £75.00 for two days (however, it's important to note that the use of the hot-tub is only available for those staying at the Old Winchester and The Butser).
The owner Alex also provides 'first night suppers' as an added extra and kindly brings it down to your tin on the first evening.
I decided to order 'Bangers and Mash with Onion Gravy', all served with vegetables and ready to heat up on the outdoor stove.

As the evening got darker, we set up the dinner table using the campfire and hurricane lanterns as our source of light and began cooking our meal under the stars...
... before sitting down together outside, glass of wine in hand, enjoying our first cooked meal on the campfire.
Made even more special, by my partner of 7 years, getting down on one knee and asking me to be his wife... (of course, I said yes).
Still in shock and overwhelmed by emotion, we continued our evening by taking a dip in the hot tub before heading to bed as a newly engaged couple.
I'm still on cloud 9 to this day.
MORNING AT THE WRIGGLY TIN
By the time I woke up the next morning at 7:30am, my boyfriend fiancé, had already washed up from the night before, set up the campfire and made me my morning cup of tea. All I had to do was get dressed and enjoy my morning.
The night before, Alex kindly asked us what time we would want our breakfast hamper delivered. We agreed a time of 8:30am which Alex promptly delivered the next morning, and we got ready to prepare our next meal.
We ordered the large breakfast hamper (which is designed for two mornings) and contains the following produce:
8 Bacon Rashers, 4 Pork Sausages , 6 Free Range Eggs, 750ml Bottle of Apple Juice, 500ml of organic milk, 125g of Butter, a locally baked Loaf of Bread and 1 Large Tin of Baked.
You can also order a small breakfast hamper if required.
We also purchased our morning croissants before arriving at the wriggly tin as an added extra....
... And sat outside in the sunshine, enjoying our meal.
For the rest of the morning, we took it extremely slow, and it was blissful.
We read a book in the sunshine (which we never seem to have the chance to do back at home), made cups of tea around the campfire, before retreating indoors due to the weather taking a slight turn.
Zac turned on the stove in the hut whilst I clambered under the sheets with my book, listening to the rain hitting the tin roof and feeling extremely grateful for these little moments.
The rain didn't last long (and we've been extremely lucky with the weather during our stay), however, it was nice to sit in the hut and enjoy what it had to offer for the next couple of hours.
Dinner at the Bat and Ball
For dinner, we decided to head to the Bat and Ball, a quick two minute drive from our hut.
Dogs are welcome and Odin enjoyed the 'Pooch Station' which was filled with treats, water bowls, blankets and tennis balls for all your furry friends.
The pub itself was fairly busy but the service was incredible. My Steak and Ale pie was cooked beautifully and we were kindly given a small gift of gin and tonic to take back to the hut as a congratulations on our engagement.
Once we got back to our beautiful little hut, the sun had set and we decided to make the most of our wood-burning hot tub for one more evening.
Our Final Morning at the Hut
Check out the next morning was 11am however, we decided to get cleared up and packed away fairly early, preparing for our two and a half hour drive back to the West Midlands.
The Wriggly Tin was everything I wanted and more. The perfect digital detox in the most beautiful setting, stripping everything back to basics with a hint of luxury. Alex has really thought about every detail and although he informed me that this was his final year as he was looking to retire, the work he created will live on as it will be taken over by the individuals who own the land. I just hope they keep the idyllic nature of the tins and don't make too many changes to an already incredible site.
I arrived at the Wriggly Tin as someone's girlfriend and left as a Fiancee. I think it's safe to say that the Wriggly Tin will always hold a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to return with the rest of the family.
Things to Know regarding your stay at the wriggly tin
1. Extra's - Whilst booking your stay, you may decide to add extras. Whether that be a hot tub, a breakfast hamper or a First Night Super.
2. Storage - When arriving at the Wriggly Tin, We did a small shop full of snacks, wine (and ended up placing these in the wardrobe to keep the hut tidy). There is a cool box to keep your meat, milk or any items cold but you may need to be inventive with your storage if you have done a fairly big shop.
3. Toilets - On site, there is a compost toilet with a shower (as seen above), a short distance from the site. Unfortunately, if you need the toilet at 3am in the morning, it's not the most practical. Let's be honest, for us girls, its not that easy to pop outside for a wee in the wildness, like it is for men (and I would say this element is the most unglamorous part of the trip - just keeping it real with you).
4. Unless you book The Bride or The Wriggly Inn, there are no charging ports. This may be a good thing to some, however, I was a little gutted when I could no longer take photos with my phone as it lost battery by the second day. Alex did kindly charge this up for me at his home, and I was able to also give it some extra life at a local pub however, it's just something to think about if you can't live without your phone.
5. In you hut's, you are provided with pots, pans, chairs, tea, coffee, porridge oats, pasta, sugar, oil, salt and pepper. Anything else will have to be purchased before arrival.
Sadly, Alex informed us during our stay that it would be his last season as he was selling up and retiring.
You can still book his huts, here.
