Cotswold Weekend Breaks at The Painswick, Stroud.
There is nothing more healing and therapeutic than a trip to the Cotswolds. If you asked me what truly makes my soul happy, I would say hotel stays, the holiday season, and making memories with loved ones to name a few. In fact, that was one of the main reasons why 'Our Oyster' was created. My little piece of the internet to share hidden treasures where I hope, I inspire people like you to make beautiful memories too.So you can imagine my excitement when not only did I book a night in the Cotswolds with my best friend, but the stay was also a week before Christmas. Absolutely Perfect.
With 16 stylish bedrooms to choose from, the Painswick is also home to a bar, games room, generous lounges and a restaurant all on site. It has everything you could possible need for a few nights stay however, keeps a boutique, home away from home feel.
Let me introduce you to The Painswick.

History of The Painswick
Originally built in the 18th century, the property was first known as Prospect House, renamed in the 1950's as Gwynfa House and a further time in the 1960's as Cranham Woods Hotel. Calcot Hotels snapped up the beautiful Palladian building in 2015, giving the property a complete make over and creating what is now known as 'The Painswick'.On arrival, we were kindly greeted at the check in desk (which is an informal station under the bright red painswick sign). The staff kindly offered to take our bags before leading us to our room for the night, the 'Ruskin Mill'.

The Room
Upon entry, the bed takes centre stage in the middle of the room whilst the large bay window gives you sight of the grounds.
On top of the desk, we were kindly left a welcome message from the general manager with homemade cookies from the Chef's kitchen. To me, it's little personal touches like this that really makes a boutique hotel so special (And why I’m such an advocate for boutique hotels rather than chains).
The room itself is a terraced room which overlooks the courtyard and Painswick Valley from the bedroom window.
Before dinner, I made the most of the facilitates and drew up a bath using the REN products kindly provided (The Shampoo and Conditioner were so good, I ordered myself a set when I got back home).
I then wrapped myself in one of the Painswicks' white fluffy robes, popped on the kettle and sat on the bed watching the Christmas tree shine from the garden.
Afternoon Tea at The Painswick
Once we dropped our bags off to the room, We went downstairs to the Restaurant for Afternoon Tea.
We decided to order the cream tea for two which included 4 scones and a pot of tea to share between us.
The Games Room
The games room had to be one of my favourite elements of the hotel. Being a sucker for board games myself (or any games for that matter), this was right up my street.
Due to the hotel being fairly quiet, we enjoyed a few hours in here playing pool before getting ready for dinner.
Walking around The Cotswolds
Next to the games room, you will find a little room which holds rain coats, blankets and wellington boots for the guests to use if they decide to go on a walk.
The Hotel have also provided you with QR codes which gives you a few walking routes along with the estimated time it will take you to complete. Whether you fancy a one hour walk to see what Painswick has to offer or a long 5 hour walk with your dog, The Painswick has you covered.
(And yes, you heard me correctly, Dogs are allowed to stay in this hotel!)
The Lounge and Bar
The Lounge looked like something out of a magazine with every detail being carefully thought out.
The grand fireplace takes centre stage whilst the panelling and statement ceiling lights adds a homey feeling to the room.
The Falcon Inn, Painswick
When booking my reservation at The Painswick, I couldn't wait to eat at the restaurant. I had heard great things about the chef Jamie McCallum and couldn't wait to devour their Beef Wellington.
Unfortunately, the Beef Wellington was not on the menu for the nights sitting and therefore, we took a 4 minute walk to the local pub, The Falcon Inn.
We ate from the Festive Menu & decided to share the Chateaubriand for two with duck fat roast potatoes, roasted carrots, bacon Brussels sprouts and red wine sauce.
For dessert, I went for the Chocolate Mousse whilst Melissa went for a bowl of ice cream.

With our stomachs full and slightly intoxicated on pink G&T's, we took a short 5 minute walk back to The Painswick. The hotel itself was quiet on our return and we decided to take this opportunity to play a few more games of pool in the games room. We ordered hot chocolates whilst we played before deciding to take a break and grabbing a blanket kindly provided by the hotel, to sit outside in the courtyard.

After setting the world to rights and taking in the beautiful landscape of the hotel, we decided to call it a night and headed off to our room for the evening.
Breakfast at the Painswick
Deciding we wanted to stay in bed for longer, we ordered our breakfast to the room before packing our bags and checking out at 11am.
I think its safe to say that The Painswick has really set the bar for my first trip to the Cotswolds. The place is welcoming and inviting, yet luxurious. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and I love that everything can be done under one roof.
A true home away from home feel.
Now that I know what The Painswick has to offer, I will definitely be returning (this time, with my French bulldog, Odin).
